Career of the Week

Economics

By Careers Service Interns Victor Liauw, Jacqui Davies, Liz Piper, Vita Coppola
--- 6th March 2006 ---

Economics is the study of choices. Studying economics allows people to gain greater understanding of the world around them, in many areas additional to the business world. Not all people who study economics become economists; however economics students gain the ability to approach problem solving in a constructive and disciplined way, increasing their appeal to possible employers.

An economics major provides a basis for careers in:

  • Accounting
  • Business
  • Government and politics
  • Public policy
  • Marketing and tourism
  • Finance and insurance
  • Teaching

Many companies are already commencing their recruitment process for 2006 graduates. Listed below are just a few of the opportunities that exist for those with an economics major.
